The size of a human urn depends on the amount of ashes, which is directly related to the individual’s weight. The general rule of thumb is 1 cubic inch of urn space per pound of body weight. Below is a guide for selecting the appropriate urn size:

• Keepsake Urns: Typically hold a small portion of ashes (ideal for sharing among family) and are around 1–20 cubic inches.
• Extra-Small or Small Urns: Suitable for babies or children; these are typically 20–50 cubic inches.
• Medium Urns: Fit individuals weighing up to 100 pounds; usually around 50–100 cubic inches.
• Standard or Adult Urns: Designed for individuals weighing between 100–200 pounds; range from 200–220 cubic inches.
• Companion Urns: Meant for couples or to combine two sets of ashes; these are around 300–400 cubic inches.
• Oversized Urns: Made for individuals over 200 pounds, generally 250 cubic inches or more.
